The word “Sankashti” comes from Sanskrit and implies freedom from difficult times. As per the Hindu Calendar, every lunar month has two Chaturthi tithis. The one that comes after Puranmasi or full moon during Krishna Paksha is known as Sankashti Chaturthi, whereas the one that comes after Amavasya or new moon day during Shukla Paksha is known as Vinayaka Chaturthi.
There are a total of 12 Sankashti Chaturthi Vrats in the year, and Krishnapingala Sankashti Chaturthi is one of the 12 Sankatahara Ganesha Chaturthi Vratas. Sankashti Chaturthi, also known as Sankatahara Chaturthi, is a day in every lunar month of the Hindu calendar dedicated to lord Ganesha. Devotees of Lord Ganesha observe the Krishnapingala Sankashti Vrat on the Chaturthi Tithi (fourth day) of Jyeshtha Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the Moon) as per the Amavasyant calendar.
It is said that Lord Shiva declared that Lord Ganesha will be evoked before the beginning of any puja, on this day. Vignaharta is an incarnation of wisdom and virtue. Devotees perform Arti of Lord Ganesh and they offer him hibiscus flowers and Durvas to the deity as they are considered auspicious. It is believed that all the wishes and dreams come true if one prays on this auspicious day with pure heart and soul.
