Magha Navratri Begins Today – 22 Jan 2023

Magha Navratri is also called Gupt(a) Navratri. Pray to Durga Maa to achieve success and good health.

Magha Navratri begins today on January 22, 2023. Lord Durga’s nine forms are worshipped during these days.

It is said that Gupt(a) Navratri is for Sadhaks and Tantras. That is, people secretly worship the goddess to enhance their own faith. Some do it with an intention to get relief from bad karma. Others do it to enhance their own faith. On the other hand, some Sadhaks seek more powers from the shakti form.

To put it into context, Gupt(a) or secret praying is difficult & people consider it as a test of faith. However, even common people can worship the divine & seek blessings.

Gupt(a) Navratri comes twice a year. Once, during Ashada month. Second, in Magha month. Today marks the beginning of Magha Navratri.

All the rituals are same during Gupt(a) Navratri. The shakti form of goddess is worshipped. These include Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skanda Mata, Katyayani, Kalaratri, Maha Gauri, Shailputri, Brahmacharini, and Siddhidatri.

People fast for 8 – 9 days. It is believed that by fasting and praying, people get relief from their sufferings. Once the fasting is complete, blessings are given to the female members of the house. Specifically, daughters.

Reciting religious texts like ‘Durga Saptashati’, ‘Devi Mahatmya’ and ‘Srimad-Devi Bhagwat’ is considered very auspicious.
