Story Behing Vikata Sankashti Chaturthi

Once Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati were playing Chausar. However, no one was present to supervise the game. Therefore, Lord Shiva created an entity, a boy. He asked him to keep an eye on the game. Then, Maa Parvati won the game three times. However, the boy kept declaring Lord Shiva as the winner.

As a result, infuriated Maa Parvati cursed the boy to spend his life in a swamp. The boy repented of his error and begged for forgiveness. To this, Maa Parvati told him to wait for Nag Kanyas as only they could provide him with a remedy to break the curse.

Nag Kanyas advised him to observe Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat for 21 days to get rid of the curse. The boy succeeded in pleasing Lord Ganesha. Looking at this, Maa Parvati also observed this vrat to meet her son Lord Kartikeya. She then, returned to Kailasa to meet her son.

Since that day, it is believed that praying to Lord Ganesha by lighting a diya, incense, offering milk, yellow flowers and observing a fast takes away all the misfortunes.

Concluding: Every story tells us about two things: We are free to act but we cannot escape from it’s consequences. Secondly, we always have tools and means to get rid of our bad karma. Wish you a blessed Vikata Sankashti Chaturthi.
