Significance of Ganesh Chaturthi

Goddess Parvati is the creator of Lord Ganesha or Ganpati. Once, in the absence of Lord Shiva, she used her sandalwood paste to create Lord Ganesha to guard the door while she was bathing. Soon, Shiva arrived but Lord Ganpati did not let him enter the doorway, following his mother’s orders. Enrag

ed, Lord Shiva cut off Ganesha’s head. Looking at this incident, Goddess Parvati took the form of angry Kaali and threated to destroy the world. All the disciples requested Lord Shiva to calm her down, fearing end of the world. To this, Shiva ordered his disciples to get a head of the first child they find, which happened to be an elephant.

They brought his head to Lord Shiva who then placed it on top of Ganesha’s body & brought him back to life. This calmed down Kaali’s rage. Goddess Parvati was filled with joy again. Lord Ganesha was hailed, welcomed & prayed for his life and new beginning.
