Devotees of Lord Vishu pray and observe fast on this blessed day. It is believed that fasting on this day is equivalent to serve 88,000 brahmins.

Yogini Ekadashi Story

The story revolves around Hemamali, a yaksha who used to work for king Kuber. He was responsible for bringing fresh flowers from Mansarover for the king to worship Lord Shiva. One day, Hemamali was late to bring the flowers so king sent his men to look for him. The men returned and informed the king that the reason for negligence was due to Hemamali’s beautiful wife.

To this, angry Kuber cursed Hemamali to suffer from Leprosy and distance from his wife. After suffering a miserable life, Hemamali went to Markandeya Muni for help. He suggested Hemamali to observe the fast of Yogini Ekadashi to get rid of his ailments. Following sage Markandeya’s worcds, Hemamali observed the fast and got rid of all his ailments and returned to his wife.
